ROBSTOWN - Friends and family held a barbeque benefit in Robstown today for a man who lost everything in a house fire last month.
The fire destroyed two homes, including Rudy Garza's. Since that terrible day three weeks, Garza has also had to have surgery on his gall bladder.
So now he has medical expenses to take care of, and a home to rebuild.
Today family and friends sold plates of chicken, rice and beans, and mashed potatoes.
"We've had a lot of support from the community, especially friends around the area," said Janie Escareno, event organizer. "We put it on facebook and we've had a lot of monetary donations."
Today people could also bid on silent auction items. All of the money raised will be given to Rudy Garza so he can build a new home.
