CORPUS CHRISTI -- A man suspected of robbing the Texas Champion Bank at Ayers and Gollihar was arrested just minutes after the holdup. The man was caught after having lunch at a mexican food restaurant just down the street. The restaurant manager, Alma Leon said the man didn't draw attention to himself.
"We just saw this guy walking in but he looked normal," Alma said.
The manager of La Tapatia said, the suspect casually came into the restaurant. Police said, it was just minutes after the bank was robbed by someone matching his description.
"The cops just asked if we had seen a guy however he described it," Alma said. "Yeah he even ate, he was acting normal like I said we didn't even know why they were looking for him."
Alma said, she wasn't aware that the bank down the street had just been robbed.
"We didn't know what was going on so we just saw the cops cars outside," she said.
Police said, just after 10 Monday morning, a man entered the bank wearing a bandana covering his face. He handed the teller a threatening note, claiming he had a weapon.
However, no weapon was found when the suspect was arrested but they did find some incriminating evidence. Officers pulled cash out of the man's cowboy boots.
Police said, the suspect was wearing different clothes but a witness told police they saw this man toss some clothes across the street from the restaurant.
No one was hurt in the robbery, but the suspect could face aggravated robbery charges for the weapon claim.
