CORPUS CHRISTI - The (14-11-1)Ray girl's soccer team may be the Cinderella story of the High School Soccer playoffs. That is, to everyone not wearing a Lady Texans jersey.
"I guess you can say surprised people didn't expect this coming from our season last year and we have really stepped it up and worked hard this season," said Natalie Moreno.
Ray has gutted out a pair of postseason victories over Kingsville and Pleasanton advancing to the third round of the Class 4A playoffs where they will meet a very talented Beeville bunch.
"I definitely didn't think we would beat Pleasanton, but after that first goal I was like wow we can do this," said Emily Benkendorfer.
Ray, who wasn't even close to a playoff birth last year, says their theme this season is "Ball is Life", here's why.
"When I say ball is life it means when we go out there we leave everything on the field and these past couple of months have been all about this team and what we can do for each other and just growing as a team and playing soccer, ball is life," said Davis.
This isn't a white collar team, and they're style isn't flashy but it is effective. And on Thursday night, the Lady Texans will have two important advantages, the first being the game is in their back yard at Buc Stadium, and the second is they haven't lost a game this year at Buc Stadium.
Game time is slated for 7pm on Thursday.
