UPDATE at 4:02pm: Charges being dropped against Mark Baker after District Attorney's office says new evidence has lead investigators in a different direction.

CORPUS CHRISTI - The arrest affidavit issued for Mark Baker, 47, on a charge of murder states it was a witness who identified him as a suspect in the stabbing death of Samuel Moore on Wednesday morning.

According to police, Moore died from a laceration to his heart.

The 24-year-old victim was walking towards the McDonald's in Flour Bluff with a friend when he spotted the man who robbed him just a short time ago, according to court documents.

Moore's friend had already called a relative to tell them about Moore being robbed. The relative was on their way to give them a ride when he got into the fight.

The friend watched as Moore confronted his alleged robber who was armed with a knife in his right hand. During the brief struggle Moore was stabbed in the heart.

At about that time, the people who were on their way to give them a ride showed up. As Moore was brought into the car, his friend realized how seriously he was wounded. He was rushed to Bay Area Hospital where he later died.

A woman in the car told police she recognized a man seen with Moore and his friend at the scene of the fight. She later picked his photo out of a line-up of six white males. According to the affidavit, the woman had seen Mark Baker in the area on numerous occasions.

U.S. Marshals arrested Baker Thursday morning at Timon's Ministries in Flour Bluff. We're told he's the cook at the ministry which helps the homeless.

This morning Baker made his first appearance in court on the murder charge. He's asked for a public defender and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
