UNDATED - New vehicles will soon have to come equipped with backup cameras.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration decided that the cameras must be in all new vehicles under 10,000 pounds. The rule takes effect May 1, 2018.
The camera has to show an area of 10 feet by 20 feet directly behind the vehicle.
The administration says the technology will reduce backover crashes.
Those accidents cause about 210 deaths and 15,000 injuries per year.
