CORPUS CHRISTI - The family of a 75-year-old woman struck and killed while crossing Ayers Street last night tell us they don't harbor any ill will towards the driver.
Elva Gonzalez died from severe head trauma after being struck by a Ford Taurus at the intersection of Ayers and Roosevelt around 6:30 p.m.
Police say the driver did not see the woman until it was too late. He had no chance to avoid hitting her.
Gonzalez was not in a crosswalk as he headed a bingo center. The driver will not face any charges or be issued citations for the incident.
Her son, Arnulfo, told us, "he was very upset, very emotional and we just wanted to tell him that it was an accident, for him not to bare the burden, I'm mean I'm sure it was hard for him."
Gonzalez was an avid bingo player at the location for 27 years.
