BROWNSVILLE - Authorities on South Padre Island found the body of former attorney Ray Marchan this afternoon in the Laguna Madre. Marchan was supposed to surrender to federal authorities today to start serving his three and a half year sentence on racketeering charges.
Marchan reportedly took a cab to the top of the Queen Isabel Causeway in Port Isabel then faked an illness so the cabbie would let him out. He reportedly jumped off the bridge right after getting out of the car.
Last year, Marchan plead guilty to bribing State District Judge Able Limas to help out cases being heard in his courtroom. Limas has already pleaded guilty to racketeering and awaits sentencing.
This afternoon the second attorney to stand trial in the corruption investigation was found guilty on all counts in his racketeering case. The trial was moved from the Rio Grande Valley to Corpus Christi due to high publicity in the area.
Austin attorney Marc Rosenthal was ordered to be held in federal custody until his sentencing in June.
