CORPUS CHRISTI - Attorneys for the teen sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl are appealing the jury's decision.
Jacob Musich plead guilty to the crimes just as his trial was about to get underway last month.
His attorneys' appeal centers on remarks made by the prosecution during closing arguments in the sentencing phase.
The appeal claims prosecutors' description of Musich and the other defendants as "white and affluent" was meant to give the jury the impression that their race and economic status would enable them to get away with the crime.
Defense attorneys claim those comments were unfair and prejudicial.
The other two defendants in the case, Eric Dimick and Colton Visor, will go on trial for aggravated kidnapping in February.
