Attorney on Trial for Racketeering Could Get Out of Jail

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A federal judge has given an Austin attorney another chance to stay free during his trial in South Texas on racketeering charges.

Attorney Marc Rosenthal still had not bonded out of federal custody Wednesday in Corpus Christi, a day after U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen reconsidered a previous decision to jail the defendant for violating the terms of his release. Court records show that under the new terms, Rosenthal would have to post a $500,000 bond with $300,000 down and be subject to house arrest and electronic monitoring.

Prior to being jailed Friday, Rosenthal had been free on $100,000 bond since his 2011 indictment.

The case is part of a years-long investigation into former state District Judge Abel Limas, who has already pleaded guilty to racketeering and is awaiting sentencing.
