CORPUS CHRISTI - Astros third baseman Aaron Boone will play in his first professional game Monday night since undergoing open heart surgery back in March.
He is slated for five innings at third base as the Hooks take on the Rockhounds.
The 36-year-old admitted to knowing about his heart condition as far as back as college, but said it was not, at the time, an emergency situation.
Boone is scheduled to be with the team for 10 to 12 days, then will head to Round Rock before hopefully joining the Astros by Sept. 1.
All in all, he is a career .264 hitter and an all-around solid player, but right now he's just happy to be back on the field.
"I have just been blessed that I am back. So far, I have just been trying to get my strength back and, you know, I still love to come out here and do it, but I am not addicted to it. I'm not out here taking any risks, and hopefully, I can have a good couple of weeks and then get up there," Boone said.
