HOUSTON, Texas - Junior Ashley Coy fired a second round 76 to finish with a 36-hole score of 158 to claim medalist honors, while the Texas A&M-Kingsville golf team missed the team title by one shot to Houston-Victoria in the Talamonti Shafts Invitational hosted by St. Thomas.
The Hoggies finished with a team score of 656 finishing with a 325 after an opening round 331. The Cougars finished one shot ahead. They opened with a 333 and closed with a 322 for a 655. Texas A&M International was third with a 660.
Ashley Coy placed first with a 158 defeating UHV's Becky Benchot by two shots and Javelina teammate Brandy Rivera, who had rounds of 80 and 81, by three strokes. Analysa Coy finished with a 167, while Brianne Costilla had a 182. Jessica Sellers opened with an 84 but was disqualified in the second round. Meagan Cantu competed as an individual opening with an 86 and closing with a 91.
The Javelinas close out the fall in early November at the UT-Brownsville/TSC Women's Fall Shootout in Laguna Vista.
