MINNESOTA - Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said he is certain he will play Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, despite a serious personal matter that caused him to miss practice Thursday.
NBC Sports is reporting that Peterson's 2-year-old son was taken to the hospital in Sioux Fall, South Dakota Wednesday, the victim of physical abuse.
Police today released a statement that the boy passed away as a result of his injuries. The mother's boyfriend, 27-year old Joseph Patterson, is accused in the case and is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery on an infant.
At a court appearance Friday, Patterson was ordered to be held on $750,000 cash bond.
Adrian Peterson questions after practice Friday, asking reporters to respect his and his family's privacy.
