The transition to Digital Television (DTV) is here. By law, all full power television stations nationwide must have switched from analog to digital broadcasts by June 12, 2009.


Why Digital Television (DTV)?

  • Dramatically clearer picture
  • Better sound quality
  • More TV programming options
  • More efficient and more flexible than analog


Who is affected?

Every household in America that receives free over-the-air broadcasting signals through antennas on analog television sets is affected by the transition.

  • 19.6 million households are analog only
  • An additional 15 million receive over-the-air signals on at least one analog set
  • 69 million analog sets are being used across the country!


Is my TV analog or digital?

Digital TVs

  • Any large TV (36"+) bought since July 2005
  • Any Medium-sized TV (25-36") bought since March 2006
  • All TVs as well as VCRs bought after March 2007


What do I look for?

  • Integrated Digital Tuner or Receiver
  • Digital Tuner or Receiver Built-In
  • DTV Tuner or Receiver
  • ATSC Tuner or Receiver
  • HDTV Tuner or Receiver

How Do I Receive DTV?

1) Purchase a converter box. It is very important in our area to purchase a converter box with analog pass through capability.


What else can I do?

2) Purchase a new television with a built-in digital tuner.

3) Subscribe to a paid cable, satellite, or telephone company television service.
