ARANSAS PASS - The (21-8) Aransas Pass boy's basketball team has gotten off to a fast 6-0 district start. The Panthers, who are currently ranked #11 in Class 2A are the first boy's team since 2005 to spend the entire season in the state rankings.

The last group to do so made a trip to the State Tournament, something this year's group is hoping to accomplish. The Panthers did tell us that since dropping down from 3A to 2A they have felt a ton of pressure from the community, as well as one another.

Head Coach Glen Hayes knows all about winning and making deep postseason runs, his son was a member of that 2005 squad, and his current players grew up cheering for those teams and say it's what driving them this year.

"I used to come to the games all the time when Daniel Hays and Matt Hall used to play and GA and Will Clark played and I loved to come and watch. It has motivated me to be a good basketball player and keep the winning tradition here," said Guard Eric Johns

"Every Tuesday and Friday that was the thing we just loved it and it's always been the big thing fin my family," said Forward Hunter Isom.

Meanwhile guard Troy Trout said it was that team that made him decide to start playing basketball.

"6th grade was when I started playing basketball and they were the reason why I started playing," he said.

While Will Butler still remembers following the Panthers to the State Tournament in Austin.

"Just to go and have the feeling and seeing them and thinking one day I will be up there," he said.
