CORPUS CHRISTI - The family of a middle school football player says he's on life support today this after police say he likely suffered a severe allergic reaction to ant bites.
Haas Middle School Principal Lynda DeLeon says the team was huddled up during halftime when Cameron Espinosa started screaming as ants bit him.
The teen lost consciousness twice before medics arrived at the field. The medics were doing CPR as they rushed him to Bay Area Hospital, before he was transferred to Driscoll Children's Hospital.
Cameron has ant bites all over his stomach and legs. A check behind Haas Middle School turned up a large amount of ants on the sports field.
Principal Espinosa says the field will not be used again until it is treated for insects.
A rally and prayer service was held today for Cameron. For now, the upcoming open house and other school events are on hold.
