CORPUS CHRISTI - Animal Control says a homeowner had no clue there were 25 dead cats inside the vacant house on Poenisch Drive. Officers made the grim discovery last week while checking out complaints of large amounts of roaches in the neighborhood.
The 80-year-old woman who owns the place moved to a nursing home in April. We're told she cried once she heard about the dead animals.
"She was absolutely shocked. Both her and her daughter were very upset. They couldn't believe something like that could happen," says
Heather Hedrick of Animal Care Services
Hedrick says the homeowner never allowed animals inside because of her severe allergies. Officials are now working in the assumption that someone living in the home illegally may have let the cats inside.
