CORPUS CHRISTI -- A police officer was involved in a two-car accident early this morning.

It happened at I-37 northbound and Nueces Bay Boulevard.

The officer was working a separate hit-and-run car accident. When he returned to his unit, another car rear-ended his car.

The driver of the second car was unresponsive and unconscious when other police units arrived, and he was trapped in the car.

Both men were taken to the hospital. The police officer did not have life-threatening injuries, while the other man had more serious injuries.

The police officer has since been released.

The driver of the second car will be cited with failure to control speed. He may also be facing a charge of driving while intoxicated.
