American Wins First Gold Medal of 2014 Olympics

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) - The first gold medal of the Sochi Olympics has gone to an American.

Snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg soared to victory in the men's slopestyle, pulling off a trick he named the "Holy Crail."

The 20-year-old from Idaho jetted off the first big jump of the course and propelled himself into a helicopter twirl that whirred around for four-and-a-half rotations.

While in the air, he grabbed the back of his board and flexed his legs behind his back.
