DRISCOLL - Residents in Driscoll, Bishop, and Petronilla are especially glad today to have a paramedic unit watching over them. The three towns share one ambulance and yesterday, they came close to not having one at all.

The three towns comprise what is called Emergency Service District Number 6. The District has a board that determines who will provide their ambulance service.

Bill Ordner is the president of that board. He says they were working with a company called Forces Ambulance Service on a month to month contract. But yesterday, Ordner found out that the owner of the company, Matt Clark, had taken the ambulance out of Driscoll.

"Actually pulled out of here and was going to make the calls out of Odem, but that's not good enough. That's too far," Ordner says.

Ordner says the contract between the board and Clark states that the ambulance must be stationed in Driscoll. He says that even though Clark had been through the end of the month, he took the ambulance back anyway.

"And when he did that and we found out, then we, I'm going to make sure there's an ambulance here in Driscoll," Ordner says.

So while the board looks for a new company, an ambulance unit from Annaville will fill in. The Annaville Fire Department says they can fill in for as long as needed. Driscoll Mayor John Aguilar is grateful that they're there.

"When I saw them (Forces Ambulance Service) pulling out, I was concerned. But later on that evening, I saw Annaville out here, so that was a big relief to me and some of the citizens out here. A lot of the citizens out here," Aguilar says.

We tried to call Matt Clark to ask him if he violated his contract with the board, but he didn't answer and his phone didn't accept messages.
