Alvarez Manslaughter Trial: Experts Testify About Injuries

CORPUS CHRISTI - Testimony continued today in the trial of David Alvarez. He's accused of punching and killing another man in a Whataburger parking lot last year.

Spectators packed Judge Nanette Hasette's courtroom for the second day of testimony for the prosecution. Those spectators included friends and family members from both the accused and the victim, Aaron Juarez.

According to police, Alvarez and Juarez got into an argument in the parking lot of the restaurant on Yorktown and Cimarron after Juarez opened a car door too far and dinged the vehicle next to him.

A detective, the medical examiner and a fingerprint expert were all cross-examined by the defense.

The medical examiner showed jurors some autopsy photos of the victim, but did not show the entire courtroom. He said Aaron Juarez died of blunt force head trauma.

He said even though Juarez had alcohol in his system when he died, he was knocked down with enough force to fracture his skull and cause his brain to swell.

A few bystanders who say they witnessed the fatal dispute are also expected to testify. Friends and family on both sides told KRIS 6 News that a year after Juarez's death, the memory remains painful.
