Alice Police Chief Resigns with Timeline, Told to Leave Immediately

ALICE - A resigned police chief is heading to Arizona, after being told to pack his stuff and get out.

The now former Alice Police Chief, Randy Weems, said he gave his letter of resignation to this city earlier this week, intending to stay and work until June.

He said he wanted to help the city make a smooth transition, but the city manager didn't want his help. Interim City Manager Hector Hinojosa asked Weems to clean his desk and leave.

It's a move Hinojosa said he made with the city in mind. He said he wants a police chief that's invested in the future of Alice.

Weems said he did see himself invested in the city's future, but didn't feel like they saw him in theirs'.

"After City Manager De Los Santos was terminated, I felt like at any given time I could be next," said Weems. "I took the action, to move my family back to Arizona, and put my house on the market."

Weems is headed to Arizona, where he's accepted a job in consulting.
