ROBSTOWN - Police in Robstown detained two men from Alice accused of pointing a laser at a Halo-Flight helicopter last night.
According to police, 20-year old David Lopez and 21-year old Joshua Vela were traveling eastbound on Highway 44 around 7 p.m. when they pointed a laser into the sky. The laser distracted the pilot of a Halo-Flight helicopter who did not have a patient onboard at the time.
The pilot contacted police as he followed the suspects' vehicle until a patrol officer was able to pull them over.
The officer says Lopez had the black laser pointer, but both Lopez and Vela admitted to pointing it skywards.
Both men were taken to the Robstown Police Department for questioning. They were released without charges pending the outcome of an investigation by the FBI.
Endangering the lives of an aircrew and passengers is federal offense punishable by a fine up to $250,000 and up to 5 years in prison.
