WASHINGTON -- A delegation from Alice was in Washington Thursday morning when chaos broke out after a woman tried to ram her car through the White House entrance gate before leading police on a chase across the nation's capital.
City Manager Ray De Los Santos, the mayor, the police chief, and three city council members were in Washington to meet with Texas congressman about local issues when all of a sudden police were running around frantically with their guns drawn.
"We noticed that the security - the Capitol Hill Police - were moving with a heightened sense of urgency," De Los Santos said. "I looked over to the chief and said, 'this is probably not a good thing.' As we were making our way down the hall where Congressman Vela's office was we were quickly escorted into his office. They were at that moment quickly giving the order to shelter in place."
The Alice delegation is due back in Texas Friday.
