ALICE - Alice City Councilman Frank Hinojosa may get his way in removing City Manager Ray De Los Santos Jr. But it may cost him his seat, too.
Hinojosa now is facing backlash from a small group of voters, who dropped off a small stack of affidavits today at City Hall asking for Hinojosa's removal.
We headed to Alice today in response to the affidavits to ask Hinojosa about the move and tonight's possible vote to remove De Los Santos. But he said he could not spare the 30 seconds needed to answer our question.
Former Jim Wells County Commissioner Zeneida Sanchez agreed to drop the affadavits by City Hall.
She said she did not sign one herself but that those who did want Hinojosa to stop wasting time and energy going after the City Manager.
"They believe Mr. Hinojosa's actions are counterproductive to what the City of Alice should be about, right now," she told reporter Rick Spruill (@KRIS6_Rick).
Sanchez said if City Council members wanted to address their problems with De Los Santos, they should have done it during his annual performance review earlier in the Fall.
"I think they all had the opportunity to evaluate the city manager a few weeks ago," she said. "I think clearly right now they're wasting our energies, our time, our effort when clearly we need to be moving forward."
We will be sure to let you know whether the five-member city council votes on De Los Santos' job tonight during their meeting. The item addressing the City Manager is near the bottom of the agenda and the Council must first go into executive session before taking any action.
So check back with us both here and live at 10 p.m.
