CORPUS CHRISTI - If you fly out of Corpus Christi International Airport, your choices of airlines are United, American Airlines, and Southwest. The annual airline quality ratings were released Monday morning and things don't look too good for a couple of those carriers.
To calculate the grades on these airline report cards, the authors of this industry wide annual report looked at 2012 data from the US Department of Transportation. They rated airlines on mishandled baggage, how often they're on time, customer complaints and denied boardings.
United is the lowest rated airline on the entire list this year on-time only 77 percent of the time. The airline also has the industries highest number of complaints, double what they were in 2011 and nearly double the number of denied boardings in 2012 compared to the previous year. Their mishandled baggage numbers also increased, but only slightly.
American Airlines also registered poorer performance last year. On-time arrival dropped from nearly 78 percent in 2011 to just below 77 percent in 2012. Customer complaints also increased, but only slightly American did have improvement in denied boardings and mishandled baggage.
American Eagle did better than it's parent company showing the biggest overall improvements of any airline. Most importantly, they are on time nearly 82 percent of the time. But still, when it comes to mishandled bags they are twice as likely to loose your luggage as any other airline...
According to this annual survey, of all the the airlines out here Southwest may be the best choice. It showed improvement from 2011, their on time arrivals increased to 83 percent. Southwest also has the lowest complaint rate in the entire industry.
