CORPUS CHRISTI -- An arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday gives new details about a gas station shooting that left a Corpus Christi man dead.
According to the affidavit, Jose Macias Jr., 18, murdered Casimiro Guerra Jr., 22, after an incident involving both men at the Stripes at 6002 Ayers St. Sunday night.
But the group of people who were with the victim and the group who were with the suspect gave police conflicting accounts of the incident. Those who were with Macias told authorities that the shooting happened after a drug deal went awry. Macias' friends told police they thought the group of people with Guerra were trying to rip them off during a cash exchange for hydro marijuana.
Guerra's friends, on the other hand, told police Guerra was shot after Macias' friends tried to carjack them. A person who was with Macias, they said, tried getting in their vehicle by pulling on the door handle. That is when they said they sped away and someone shot at their vehicle.
Macias, who turned himself in to the City Detention Center Monday night, is charged with murder, a first-degree felony. He is being held on $200,000 bond.
