Accused Dallas Tech Manager Faked Resume

DALLAS - A Dallas information services manager accused of stealing city iPads was hired after submitting a resume filled with fabrications, according to a newspaper's investigations.
The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that 26-year-old Antoine Deon Flowers took charge of the city's desktop computer systems in September after presenting himself as a former Army lieutenant with top-secret clearance and a NASA engineer.
Flowers was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with stealing a dozen iPads owned by the city.
The newspaper says that according to its own research, Flowers was not an Army lieutenant with top secret clearance and that his job at NASA was a three month internship and not as a systems engineer. It also says Flowers exaggerated his role as an instructor at Centura College at Newport News, Va., and that the Southern Methodist University, where he claimed to be pursuing his master's degree, has no record of him.
The city's hiring guidelines state that references provided in resumes should be checked for accuracy. City officials declined comment.
Flowers stated reason for resignation in January was "career change" and he was listed as eligible for work in City Hall, the newspaper says.
Police officers have recovered 11 of the 12 missing iPads at Dallas pawnshops. In some of the cases, Flowers could be seen selling them, a warrant states. Flowers wasn't listed in jail records as being in custody Sunday and couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
The newspaper also says court records in Virginia show that debt collectors in Virginia Beach and Newport News were after Flowers for failing to make payments on a car note and for rent at two apartment complexes.
Flowers was hired in the wake of hiring scandal. The newspaper in 2011 reported another information services leader bypassed civil service laws to hire his church friends. At the time, the city manager Mary Suhm told the City Council there would be changes.
