FLOUR BLUFF -- Austin Garcia's teammates say he's the kind of person you want to be around.
"[He's] just a great kid," said Claudio Garcia Jr. "Always strong, always happy."
Garcia, 18, was severely injured in an accident that killed his father, Nathaniel Garcia, 52. Authorities said Garcia's father veered into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, Paul Flores, 25, who was a former Calallen football player, died at the scene.
Garcia's teammates remember his father as their biggest cheerleader.
"He was always loud, always yelling," Garcia said. "Very - really competitive, and he was like another ref on the field."
Garcia is on a ventilator and cannot speak, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
