CORPUS CHRISTI - It wasn't all rides and funnel cakes at Buc Days today. People who walked through the gates were also taught a valuable lesson in an unusual way.
TxDot is out reminding people never to drink and drive through a game of DWI lotería, or bingo.
There were more than 25,000 alcohol related crashes in Texas last year, and nearly 37 percent of them involved Hispanic drivers.
With the help of these lotería cards, TxDot hopes to prevent even more accidents throughout the state. Each card held an image of what could happen if you get caught drinking and driving.
Several people gathered around to play and potentially win an H-E-B gift card. But TxDot hopes that's not all they left with.
"Alcohol related crashes are 100% preventable. So, our message today here is simple. If you drink, don't drive. Ever," said Rickey Dailey, TxDot Public Information Officer.
TxDot will continue moving the DWI lotería across the state to connect with many Texans on a cultural level and heighten awareness to everyone.
