CALALLEN -- A fire destroyed a home overnight on Yellowstone Drive near Callicoate and Leopard. No one was hurt but the family lost most of their belongings.

Witnesses say it took fire crews two hours to put out the flames and one little boy who lives down the street was afraid his buddies were still inside the home at the time.

"We smelled the smoke and then we saw the big old huge fire," Jace Silguero said.

The huge fire blazed through the home on Christmas Eve, Jace says he was relieved to learn that no one was home during the fire.

"I was so sad that I thought they were in the house, I was crying," Jace said.

Jace and other neighbors watched firefighters put out the devastating flames that destroyed everything from the kitchen to the torched ceilings. DVD's and toys were just some of the things destroyed in the overnight fire and scattered on the lawn but Jace says he's not going to let that ruin his friends Christmas.

"My aunt gave me a building set, it was an army set so I wrapped it up. We wrapped them up a present since their presents burned," Jace said.

Jace was checking out the damage of the very home he plays in all the time, he says seeing the burned house is sad.

"I just feel bad for them. It was kind of sad how their house burned down," he said.

Neighbors say thankfully the family of five was visiting relatives out of town, a trip, Jjace is happy they took.

"They're awfully nice to me and it's good that they were safe and not here," he added.

Fire officials aren't sure how the fire started and say an investigator will be at the home tomorrow. For now, Jace is just glad no one was hurt.

"I just want to say thank God they were safe."
