CORPUS CHRISTI - A man who was about to go on trial for murder accepts a plea deal.
Jose Alfredo Saldana was charged with the murder of Alonzo Salinas, who died shortly after he was found beaten in a westside parking lot back in October.
During a hearing this afternoon, Saldana pleaded guilty to manslaughter in exchange for a seven year sentence.
The prosecution told the judge they decided to offer him a deal on a lesser charge because the evidence showed that while Saldana was reckless, he did not intend to kill Salinas.
