MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) - A Mexican government official says seven men have been sentenced to long prison terms for their roles in a northern Mexico casino fire that killed 52 people last year.

The official says a judge in Nuevo Leon state has sentenced six men to 75 years in prison and a seventh to 100 years. Mexican law stipulates that none will serve more than 60 years. Seven others are awaiting trial.

The official spoke Friday on condition of anonymity, citing concerns for his own safety.

Gunmen entered the Casino Royale in the city of Monterrey, spread gasoline and set the building on fire. Most of the victims were women playing bingo and slot machines or having lunch. Officials have said the owner received extortion threats from the Zetas cartel and didn't pay.
