6 Investigates: State Audit Finds Discrepancies with Bingo Charity

CORPUS CHRISTI -- A charity bingo could lose its license after a state audit found violations in the way the charity is operated.

6 Investigates began looking into the Columbian Ladies of South Texas back in April when we noticed the charity itself got very little proceeds from the games set up to raise money. The Texas Lottery Commission took notice as well.

During our investigation, we found the games brought in $1.12 million, but only $7,000 went to charity. The ladies had nothing to say about that in April.

The Texas Lottery Commission states the organization failed all four objectives of the audit , including not using proceeds from the games correctly, which could lead to the license being revoked.

Today, we hoped to talk with Minnie Pena, president of Columbian Ladies of South Texas. She and her husband own CC Bingo on Ayers. As soon as we stepped inside the hall, a security officer told us, "She's not coming out, she's not coming out." Pena did not return our phone call either.

There's no word yet on what action, if any, the Texas Lottery Commission will take against the Columbian Ladies of South Texas.
