KINGSVILLE - A former Kleberg County jailer was indicted today on charges that she hid her brother who was wanted for a parole violation by Kingsville police.
According to the indictment, Clarissa Torres knew her brother, Eduardo Torres, "was convicted of a felony, namely possession of a controlled substance", and was wanted for parole violation.
According to police reports, an informant told police the brother was hiding out in his sister's apartment. That's where he was found during a search back in April.
But there are other disturbing accusations made by police against Clarissa Torres.
In that same police report, Sergeant Arnold Salinas of the Kingsville Narcotics Task Force, says that "he knew through law enforcement contacts that Eduardo Torres has direct ties to the Texas Syndicate Prison Gang".
And here's where it gets interesting. The report goes on to say that there were "disturbing" text messages between Clarissa Torres and a man in her phone named "Ducky".
According to the report, "Ducky", is Jose Hiliario Trevino, a known member of the Texas Syndicate Prison Gang. Police say that Clarissa Torres was communicating with him.
The report says she relayed information like "telling Ducky where certain inmates were located in the jail".
In the report, Sergeant Salinas says it was "a total breach of jail security".
Clarissa Torres's boyfriend, Anthony Cavazos, says she didn't even know her brother was wanted for arrest and that all the allegations are completely false.
We asked him if she was relaying sensitive information from out of the jail.
"No. She wouldn't do that. I've known her and before this, she doesn't have any type of record. She doesn't have any type of incidents like this. I live here. I have a son with her. She's not that kind of person. She doesn't do that stuff," Cavazos says.
The Kingsville Narcotics Task Force says it will continue to investigate if Clarissa Torres passed sensitive information from out of the jail to the Texas Syndicate Prison Gang.
Torres lost her job as a Kleberg County jailer shortly after her brother's arrest in April. Her boyfriend says she was fired because of the investigation surrounding her brother's arrest. The Kleberg County Sheriff's Department says that is not true. They say she was fired, but for different reasons.
