KLEBERG COUNTY - We have some new information about the more than 800 unserved warrants in Kleberg County. County commissioners met today and cut the pay of county warrant officer, Gabriel Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was making $14 an hour, and now will make only $12 an hour. The two dollars that was cut came from asset forfeiture funds in the District Attorney's Office.

Kleberg County District Attorney John Hubert says he feels Gonzalez should keep his full salary, but that he felt it was a conflict of interest for a district attorney to partially pay the salary of a district judge's employee.

Gonzalez currently works for the 105th District Judge, Angelica Hernandez.

With over 800 unserved warrants in Kleberg County and a warrant officer who many officials say needs more help, a pay cut seems odd.

But Gonzalez accepted the pay cut, something his boss, Angelica Hernandez, says was an honorable thing to do.

"He also assists in serving grand jury subpoenas, her serves felony warrants, he does other things for the D.A's office, which he's still going to be assisting with. He's not going to stop doing those duties, he's going to continue to serve this community to the very best of his ability, which he's done in the past, but now he's going to do it without that supplement," Hernandez says.

The County Commissioners have continually said they would form a committee to decide if Gonzalez should be placed in the sheriff's department or somewhere else. Staying under Hernandez's employee was only supposed to be temporary. But still, no action has been taken.

"You have to realize right now we have an election and a lot of people that are going to be, that are involved in trying to resolve this to move forward, they're not available," County Judge Juan Escobar says.
