CORPUS CHRISTI - We have new information on city workers taking nearly hour long coffee breaks on the clock, on your time.
As we've reported, our cameras caught city trucks rolling into a southside stripes at 8:35 in the morning and staying until 9:25.
Residents tell us this is a common occurrence.
We showed pictures and video of this to their supervisors, and they investigated.
Today, City Manager Ron Olson confirmed these workers were slacking off and says action will be taken. We don't know what that action will be.
"These kinds of things are embarrassing to the city. They're personally embarrassing to me. And that kind of behavior is not tolerated," Olson says.
"We do not condone people taking long breaks, longer than are appropriate, using tax-payer dollars," Councilman Mark Scott added.
Councilwoman Priscilla Leal had a different take. While she doesn't condone the behavior, she says many city workers, especially water department, have some days with no breaks.
We tried to ask their supervisors yesterday if the workers could have been taking an early lunch break, but the supervisors said that's not possible, and that workers aren't supposed to take lunch breaks at around eight in the morning.
A man claiming to be one of the workers, sounded off on Facebook yesterday after our story aired.
In one of his posts, he wrote, "I want to thank everyone for paying taxes on us, and we still eat tacos. Yeah!!!".
The man claims to be named Roger Ramos.
City Council confirmed that Ramos is a temporary worker with the city. He does not work full-time.
