CORPUS CHRISTI - A couple weeks ago, we told you about how much overtime city workers racked up last year.
Looks like city brush pickup crews have been racking up some pretty good overtime in the last couple months.
City brush pickup crews are behind on this latest pickup cycle, and that means workers are racking up lots of overtime to get caught up.
That overtime is costing you extra tax dollars.
There's five brush pickup cycles a year, and three of them are simply brush, but twice a year, residents are allowed to put out bulky items as well.
These are things like old T.V. sets and couches, and it always takes the brush crews more time to get it all picked up.
This most recent cycle has been particularly bad.
From January to April, brush crews earned 2,426 hours of overtime, and that cost taxpayers just over $54,000.
But in the last two months alone, since this latest cycle started in May, workers have racked up 2,905 hours of overtime.
And that overtime cost taxpayers just over $66,000.
The City Solid Waste Department says it's fully staffed, but more workers are needed. Problem is that the budget won't allow it.
So, exiting staff are all working at least three extra hours a day, and many have to work weekends.
Every extra hour is another hit to your wallet.
