CORPUS CHRISTI - An elderly Beeville woman could face charges of running an illegal gambling operation out of her house. Police say she had hundreds of customers and that's how they found out about her.

Beeville police say they found more than six thousand dollars in a 77-year-old woman's car and home.

She's not being identified but police say she was running a football gambling pool out of her house on West Springer Street. Officers say they had received several complaints by neighbors saying there was a lot of traffic going to and from the home.

"You know they're telling me she's either selling drugs or selling pot... Uh numbers football numbers. So I knew it wasn't the drugs. I knew it was the football numbers," said Beeville Police Chief Joe Trevino.

Police say they warned the woman about the complaints. But when she didn't stop the operation, they finally decided to investigate. Last Monday, a patrol officer pulled the woman over during a routine traffic stop. When they searched the car they found folded up gambling squares and envelopes full of money. Investigators say she was most likely on her way to hand out winnings to her customers.

When they went back to her home, they found more gambling paraphernalia and money. The money collected amounted up to more than 6-thousand dollars and they believe about 300 Beeville residents were participating in this gambling ring.

"It is illegal if the person is making money off of it. And this person was making money off of it. Yes, she did admit it," said Chief Trevino.

We went knocking on doors trying to figure out who was the one in charge of the gambling pool. Neighbors pointed us to a home that belongs to Genevieve Trevino. When we knocked she didn't answer.

We did find her nephew who helps run the Trevino Funeral Home next door. When I brought up the gambling pool he said that's something I would have to bring up with his aunt.

"That you would have to take up with her. I have no idea what she does with her life or anything like that," said Genevieve Trevino's Nephew.

As of now, the woman is not in custody and no charges have been filed against her but Beeville Police say that could change. Beeville PD has handed the case off to the District Attorney's office who will decide if the woman will be indicted to the grand jury.

Police say they're not pursuing charges against any of the woman's customers at this time. The chief says many of them used fake names.
