47 People Arrested Overnight in Ferguson, 1 From Texas

MISSOURI - The mood in Ferguson, Missouri was relatively calm until early Wednesday morning when there were reports of shots fired.

Authorities said 47 people were arrested overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

Captain Ron Johnson with the Missouri Highway Patrol said one person who was arrested was taken into custody for the third time. Johnson also said that person came to Ferguson from Austin, Texas.

Officers chased several people near Florissant and Canfield around 12:00 a.m. Johnson said bottles and urine were thrown at police. Authorities said those responsible hid inside the media staging area.

Authorities said no shots were fired but said a threat was made against police.

Multiple arrests were made near Canfield and inside the media staging area just moments later.

Police ordered media members to leave the area around 12:20 a.m., citing safety concerns.

Police said they seized three handguns.

Johnson called Tuesday night a turning point and credited clergy and other leaders for keeping things calm for most of the evening.
