CORPUS CHRISTI - A federal grand jury in Corpus Christi has indicted 32 people, including several prison guards, for allegedly smuggling cell phones, cigarettes and drugs to inmates at the McConnell Unit in Beeville.
The federal indictments for racketeering charges were unsealed yesterday. The guards are accused of accepting bribes to bring contraband into the prison for inmates at the state prison.
The allegations date back to January 2005. The names of four defendants were redacted from the indictment available to the public.
