GREEN LAKE - Three people are dead in the Texas Gulf coastal bend after a sport utility vehicle in which they were riding slammed head-on into a pickup truck and burst into flames.
The crash happened about 2 p.m. Monday on two-lane Texas Route 185 near Green Lake, about 20 miles southeast of Victoria. Trooper Gerald Bryant of the Texas department of Public Safety says the SUV veered into the oncoming lane for an unknown reason and slammed into the truck, bursting into flames and coming to rest in a ditch.
The three occupants were burned beyond recognition. Their bodies were taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for identification.
The pickup truck flipped on its right side, and its two occupants were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
