SAN ANTONIO - Three people have been convicted in a South Texas fraud case involving $6.5 million in bogus charges for Air Force improvement projects.
A federal jury in San Antonio on Thursday convicted 62-year-old Donald Dean Brewer, his 62-year-old wife Sherri Lynn Brewer and 60-year-old James McKinney of San Antonio.
The Brewers, who are from Clovis, N.M., and McKinney were found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the U.S., 12 counts of wire fraud and three counts of major fraud. Sentencing has been set for June with penalties ranging from five to 20 years in prison per count.
Donald Brewer worked for KARTA Technologies Inc. on medical system improvements. McKinney was with Ark Systems Inc.
Investigators say the scam involved a sham subcontracting business and fake invoices from 2002 through 2008.
