CONROE - The parents of two Southeast Texas children found unsupervised and living virtually alone on an old renovated school bus are heading to court.

There, Mark and Sherrie Shorten are to show they've been complying with child welfare agency care plans that could lead to them regaining full custody of their kids.

They and Child Protective Services officials are to appear Tuesday before a judge in Conroe.

The couple was imprisoned nearly a year ago, serving 18-month terms for conspiracy to embezzle Hurricane Ike money in Louisiana. That's when a postal worker spotted the disheveled children about 35 miles northeast of Houston.

The Shortens had left their kids, now 6 and 12, in care of an aunt who told authorities she became overwhelmed by work and keeping up with the children.
