CORPUS CHRISTI - The driver of an 18-wheeler may face a charged of negligent homicide for yesterday's fatal Highway 77 crash that killed a school volunteer from Harlingen.
Troopers say Steinbach's wife was driving ahead of him when the 18-wheeler turned onto the highway. She was able to swerve out of the way, but her husband's Tahoe slammed into the right rear of the trailer.
Steinbach was killed in the impact while three students with him were injured. At least two of the students are already out of the hospital.
He and his wife were taking a group of La Feria High School students to Waco for a competition
For now, the 18-wheeler driver was only given a citation for failure to yield the right of way.
