CORPUS CHRISTI - Police are blocking off Interstate 37 at Port Avenue for an 18-wheeler that went over the median and took out an overhead sign. A pickup truck collided with the rear-end of the large truck.
The souhtbound side of the interstate is blocked by the wreck. The northbound side is closed for the fuel spill cleanup effort.
According to the driver of the pickup, he was in the left lane while the 18-wheeler was in the middle lane. He admitted he lost control of his truck, hit the concrete barrier and veered into the 18-wheeler, which jackknifed.
The northbound lanes of I-37 are closed in the area. There's no word on any injuries to either driver.
An officer on the scene said a puntured diesel fuel tank leaked all over the roadway.
Officers called for a medic and a fire truck to assist with the fire which was quickly put out.
We recommend using Leopard St. or N.P.I.D. to Crosstown if you plan on heading to Downtown Corpus Christi.
A hazmat crew will have to cleanup the fuel leak, then a crane will need to lift the sign off the truck before it can be towed away.
