FLORIDA (WESH) - Officials in Poinciana, Florida say 167 manhole covers have been stolen from an isolated area.
The thefts were discovered in an area referred to as Village 8. So far, the locations of the missing manhole covers have not presented a danger to drivers or pedestrians, but initially, officials worried there could be some missing in more highly trafficked areas.
They reportedly vanished overnight, but being that the area is remote they could have been stolen over several days.
Officials said each manhole covers weighs 80 pounds, making the total loss 13,000 pounds of metal.
