HOUSTON (AP) - Investigators say 16 people have been indicted in a Houston-based drug and human smuggling operation.
Prosecutors say 15 people have been arrested on indictments returned Sept. 20 and announced Wednesday. The charges include immigrant smuggling and drug smuggling conspiracy.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson says the two-year investigation involves suspects from Houston, Mexico and El Salvador. Illegal immigrants were smuggled from Mexico to Texas and at times were forced to transport drugs.
