SAN PATRICIO COUNTY - A series of game room raids in San Patricio County is one for the record books. Sheriff Leroy Moody says they recovered almost $143,000 dollars from eight game rooms during raids on Friday.
This is the largest bust ever of alleged gambling establishments in the county, even though several establishments were closed as deputies and state troopers hit the streets.
As of now, 10 people are charged with running the establishments. Sheriff Moody says there are 8 more places he'd like to visit.
Earlier this year the Sheriff sent out letters to all the owners informing them they should shut down or face charges for illegally paying out cash to customers. All of the game rooms closed by his deadline, but soon reopened.
Sheriff Moody told us they "threw it back in his face."
