    Obesity Designated as a Disease

    The American Medical Association has officially designated obesity as a disease.

    The AMA says the disease requires medical treatment and prevention. One third of Americans are obese. That's on top of the one third who are overweight.

    A board member of the Association says recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue that affects approximately one in three Americans.
