KINGSVILLE, Texas - Chris Ballou belted his first home run of the season and drove in three runs as the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team knocked off Oklahoma Christian in its season debut at Nolan Ryan Field.
With their seventh win in a row, the Javelinas improve to 8-1 on the season. The visiting Eagles dropped to 1-3 on the season.
Kingsville wasted little time getting on the scoreboard Friday night as Ryan Guedry drove in a pair of runs with a bases loaded single to right plating Joe Tallerine and Ben Villafuerte.
Chris Ballou blasted a two-run shot to left to double the Javelina advantage. After Taylor Taska led off the inning with a walk, Ballou drove a Tyler Sturges (0-1) pitch high over the fence in left for his first home run of the season.
Ballou wasn't done adding an RBI double with away in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.
With the run support, Matt Rhodes was masterful on the mound earning a win for the second start in a row. The junior scattered seven hits over seven innings allowing one run. He did not walk a batter in moving to 2-0.
Weston Silverburg relieved Rhodes to start the eighth and tossed two hitless and scoreless innings. He finished with three Ks and a walk. He hit one batter.
Kingsville finished the game with 10 hits. Aside from Ballou with three, Cash Barker added a three and Ryan Guedry had two. Barker added three steals in the contest.
The two teams conclude the series on Saturday with a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
